El Despoblado and the Many Ballads of Boxer Hill
One night in Big Bend, there were two dudes backcountry camping alone as Hell. We hiked up our small hill with a bottle of Glenfiddich and watched the sunset in our boxers. As the night progressed, so did the very loud singing of songs under a blanket of millions of stars. It is from this nostalgic moment deep in the heart of Texas that the idea for this beer was formed.
This recipe for El Despoblado comes from our Pucker Gangster’s guacamole recipe. Grant roasted avocado, onion, tomato and jalapeno and added it and garlic to our 85% white wheat Blondine. A secondary fermentation brought the residual sugar down, the pucker factor up and created a beer that transcends most people’s preconceived ideas of what beer should be.
El Despoblado will be available exclusively in our downtown taproom, Das Lokal, when it opens at 4 on Friday, August 12. Draft will be served in 12oz snifters and only 5 gallons is available.
